Story City- The Iowa Agriculture Awareness Coalition (IAAC) collaborated with the State Library of Iowa to develop and release Agriculture and You: Discover the Importance!, a free pre-K – 3rd grade educational resource for city and school libraries.
This library manual was written and illustrated by Iowans, Tami Chumbly Finley and Crystal Kehoe, in cooperation with members of Iowa Agriculture Awareness Coalition. Manuals were distributed to school libraries and public libraries with the assistance of the State Library of Iowa.
Agriculture and You: Discover the Importance! is full of enjoyable ways to begin a student’s education into the interesting world of agriculture. The manual follows eggs, corn, soybeans, livestock and milk from farm to the dinner table and ties into reading, social studies, math and science. Important parts of the food cycle are presented including research, math, engineering, manufacturing and protection of natural resources.
This photocopy ready manual also has accompanying educational suggestions and activities.
“The majority of our students live on a farm and are very interested in farm related material. Excellent, easy to use –thank you!” states Thomasine Conger, Riceville Elementary.
